Mais Yeah / Yeah Ya Right
My practice explores the dualistic nature of Gulf Coast Louisiana through place, memory, religion, culture and the idea of home. With these themes I illustrate the commonality that exists within cultures that are increasingly told to be at odds stretching from Acadiana to New Orleans. My goal is to create images that bridge and serve as a setting for the possibility of common ground in divided times.
Bio
I am a lens-based artist whose work is grounded in the landscapes, histories, and culture of the Gulf Coast, exploring the region’s enduring sense of place through a concept-first approach. For more than twenty years, I’ve employed photographic processes spanning the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries, selecting the materials and techniques that best serve each project’s narrative.
My work is included in the collections of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Helis Foundation, and the Capital One Collection.
I am the co-founder of St. Veronica’s Photography, an art consulting firm that develops photographic collections and public art projects, including The Garage, a 108-piece collection featuring work by nine Louisiana artists. I also co-founded Density Magazine, a platform dedicated to creating opportunities for lens-based artists throughout the Gulf South through publications, exhibitions, events, and community programming.
