A Fictitious House

May 21, 2020

This image was made on the main street of the town where I grew up - Loreauville, LA. I had no recollection of this house until someone recently pulled the back off. What was unnoticeable before now stands out like a fictitious movie set.

I recently listened to an interview with Robert Adams where he speaks on the idea that art helps us recognize what we already know: we don’t really discover new things but rediscover old things through art.

In my practice, I swim in the murky waters where reality and memory intersect, looking for common ground in a setting/culture in which we’ve all been grounded. I was so smitten by this concept because it helps to reinforce the purpose of this project, that through art we have a chance to rediscover shared commonality through place, memory, and culture.
